05What this is

Every year INEC, Ecuador’s statistics office, publishes the vehicles registered in the country, from the National Transit Agency’s records: 3,065,967 in 2023. Each row is one vehicle with its brand, class, fuel, model year, service and the canton where the owner lives. There is no model name and no personal data.

It is what was registered in the year, not an exact count of what is on the road: a vehicle whose registration lapsed is missing. Light vehicles are cars, SUVs, pickups and vans, as in SRI’s files. Model years of 2009 or earlier come grouped. INEC publishes more than a year late; 2023 is the latest available.
